Dutch artists Haas & Hahn (Jeroen Koolhaas and Dre Urhahn) have undertaken an ambitious street art project to paint an entire favela in Brazil. Their work began in 2005 in Vila Cruzeiro when they painted Boy With Kite

Their work in Vila Cruzeiro continued with the painting Rio Cruzeiro covering a complete street where concrete was put in place to prevent mudslides. They painted a Japanese design by tattoo artist Rob Admiraal with Koi fish covering 7000 square meters.

In 2010 with the help of 25 local youth they painted a complete square in the community of Santa Marta, once a neighborhood with a bad reputation, it is now a popular tourist attraction. According to CNN Rio is now ‘one of the world’s 10 most colorful places’.

Now they would like to paint an entire hillside of favela’s in Rio de Janeiro, but they could use some help. If you would like to support their project check out the video below and visit their website Favela Painting.
